Q:

Someone told me that steroids given for medicinal purposes may stimulate diabetes. Is this true?

A:

Yes, prednisone can be a secondary cause of diabetes. Primary causes are related to genetics and/or an autoimmune condition where lifestyle, trauma or other factors become the trigger. Often once a person is off steroids, the blood sugar will return to the "good" range.
