Q:
I can have breakfast at 7:00am and by 8:30 I'm starving to death. This happens throughout the day. I had a partial hysterectomy last September and I have gained weight. This hunger just started last week. Is this a sign of diabetes?

A:
Diabetes is not the only thing that causes hunger. Certainly with a hysterectomy, you have impacted your body's hormones and adjustments are occurring. It may also be the result of what you are eating or NOT eating for breakfast. Good protein sources are so important in the morning. If your symptoms persist and/or surface throughout the day, it could be a sign of hypoglycemia. An oral glucose tolerance test can rule this in or out.
