Q:
I checked my son about 2 hours after he ate 4 peanut butter crackers, a cup of milk, 2 hot dogs and 1 piece of bread for lunch. He had a blood sugar of 132. Is this normal? His sister is type 1 just diagnosed and he is not over weight and we do not eat alot of sugary snacks i just worry thanks.

A:
"Normal" is basically not exceeding 140 at any point. "Ideal" control may be considered not exceeding 120 two hours after eating. It is understandable that you are concerned already having one child with diabetes and the challenges that accompany. The best course to follow now would be to encouraged as much whole foods within your household as possible and overall active lifestyle. Also, discuss your concerns with your pediatrician. If you see any of the symptoms, you will know to act right away. Sometimes registering over anxiety will create stress where it doesn't need to be.
