Q:
I have just had my glucose checked while in class, and the reading was 124, my cholesteral was 211. This was at 2:30. I ate lunch at noon time. Would these readings be considered high? Should I have my doctor follow up on these ,or is the 2 hour time-frame flexible enough not to warrant concern with these numbers?

A:
Your "124" reading 2 hours after lunch is fine. If you are following a healthy lifestyle with reasonable dietary controls, you are probably "OK." With pregnancy and diabetes, we target for 120 two hours post meal; perhaps this is what raised your concern. If your fasting is between 80-90, you are in decent range. Pre-diabetes is now at 100. If elevated, you may want to monitor your blood sugars periodically just to be in a healthy zone.
