Q:
Can you tell me how to figure the amount of carbs in a daily diet of 2000 calories? We have been doing this for three years by trial an error. We only talked to a dietitian for about one hour before we left the hospital.

A:
This would depend on what your "daily diet" consists of. It may be 55-60 % carbohydrates if done by a traditional method. Within the realm of carbs, be sure to include legumes and whole grains as opposed to refined products. Nuts and lots of veggies are good complements to blood sugar control. Soy foods can also serve as carbs and protein. Moderation in eating and exercise are a key to good control. Of course, anything to keep stress down will help with lower blood sugars.
