Q:

My father is a type 2 diabetic. He also takes medication for high cholesterol and hypertension. He drinks 1-2 classes of wine everyday for dinner. Is drinking this much wine on a daily basis harmful for a type 2 diabetic?

A:

There is not one good answer as to HOW much is TOO much. If your father's blood sugars are in good control, the wine may be fine for him. Control involves his whole dietary habits. All three of his conditions can be positively affected by good habits. He should monitor his A1C levels every 3 months to see how his overall control is.
