Dear Family and Friends,
Once again this October I will be running in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. I have also taken on the added challenge of raising money for vital diabetes research. Please support me in my efforts to run 26.2 miles for a cause that means so much to me.
Diabetes is one of the most common and serious chronic diseases in the United States. The incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing. 24 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 million more are diagnosed every year. This includes 15,000 children who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year.
Diabetes has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember I have several family and friends who I have watched diabetes effect their lives. I am running my 26.2 miles for them the following are a few of the people I am running for:
My father: Who 15 years ago was diagnosed with diabetes he completely turn his life around he changed his eating habits, cut sugar almost completely out of his diet, and began exercising more (getting to the point of running six miles every day before work). Watching my dad fight this disease gives my inspiration to fight it as well.
My Aunt Pam: Who has been fighting diabetes for several years now, and even though it has not been an easy road my Aunt continues to fight and has never lost her positive attitude.
My grandfather: Who has also been fighting diabetes for several years. My papa has lost his toe due to diabetes and has had to change a lot of his eating habits as well start using insulin. Even though living with diabetes can sometimes have its bad days he never lets them get him down he keeps fighting.
My Aunt Marylou: who died on December 12 2010 from diabetes. Before that day came diabetes had already taken her legs, fingers, and kidneys but never her sprit. My Aunt Mary Lou was a fighter and she fought this disease as long as she could with everything she had and now that she is no longer with us I will continue the fight for her.
These are just a few of the people who have inspired me to run 26.2 miles and help raise money for a great cause that hits home!
You can help!
All of the funds raised by the Diabetes Action Team will support research to prevent, treat, and cure diabetes. Every dollar counts so please donate what you can. Together, we can make a difference.
Thanks so much for your support and encouragement!
