Dear Family and Friends,
After the huge success of last year's Chicago Marathon (my first ever!), in which I raised just under $2000 for Diabetes Action, I have once again decided to participate, albeit after a great deal of consideration. Gone are the days where I just turned up on the day and ran it in 4 hours. This year is going to involve some serious training and preparation, in order that I can not only smash last year's time, but, more importantly, to raise even more money this year for this very special charity.
For those of you that do not know, my younger brother Will, 18, has been living with diabetes since being diagnosed back in 2007. Seeing him live every day with Type 1 diabetes has motivated me to raise money for this fantastic charity once again!
Diabetes is one of the most common and serious chronic diseases all over the world. The incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing. 24 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 million more are diagnosed every year. This includes 15,000 children who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year. This means that almost everyone today knows someone who has been diagnosed with either form of Diabetes.
Please support me in my efforts to run 26.2 miles for a cause that means so much to me and my family. 26.2 miles may seem like a tough challenge, but it is nothing in comparison to what Will and millions of others have to go through every single day. As it currently stands, there is no real cure for Diabetes. It is something that millions of people have to live with for their entire lives, something they can not really escape!
All of the funds raised by the Diabetes Action Team will support research to prevent, treat, and cure diabetes. Every dollar counts so please donate what you can. Together, we can make a difference.
Thanks so much for your continued support and encouragement!
