Dear Family and Friends,
This October I am running in the Marine Corps Marathon again - my 6th marathon! I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 12 years old. Since then and thanks to a really wonderful faith, family, and friends support system, I have refused to let diabetes control what I can and can't do. This includes running 26.2 miles in one day (which my dad says is crazy!!). In this year's Marine Corp Marathon, I am raising money for vital diabetes research. Please encourage me (I need it!) and help me raise money for a cause that means so much to me (we all need it!).
Diabetes is one of the most common and serious chronic diseases in the United States. The incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing. 26 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 million more are diagnosed every year. This includes 15,000 children who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year. Over the last couple of years I've watched two families very dear to me - the Hauge's and the Hall's - struggle with living with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes for their child. My greatest wish is that no other parent or child would have to deal with this diagnosis and reality.
You can help!
All of the money we raise for the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation will fund research to prevent, treat, and cure diabetes. Every dollar counts so please donate what you can. Together, we can make a difference.
Thanks so much for your support and encouragement!
Hugs and Kisses!
