Fundraising Honor Roll

Dear Family and Friends,

I'm BACK!  After last year's Marine Corps Marathon I decided I can do better and I can help more, but I can't do it without you! This October I will be running in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. I have also taken on the added challenge of raising money for vital diabetes research. Please support me in my efforts to run 26.2 miles for a cause that means so much to me.

Diabetes is one of the most common and serious chronic diseases in the United States. The incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing. 26 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 million more are diagnosed every year. This includes 15,000 children who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year.Diabetes is one of the most common and serious chronic diseases in the United States. As you know my father is living w/Kidney Failure as a result of his 30+ year battle w/diabetes. I went through the process of being a Kidney Donor, but I was rejected as a candidate at the 11th hour! Apparently, our doctor found out I was technically a diabetic about 5 years ago!  There was a blood test that showed I was technically a diabetic but I never knew! Luckily for me at that time, without knowing I had diabetes, I had decided to lose weight and thankfully through carefully monitoring what I eat and exercising, in particular running, I lost over 45 lbs and am not a diabetic. However, our doctor felt that I am a high risk candidate for the disease and he didn't want to take my kidney and give it to my father and put me at risk of one day getting diabetes and only having one kidney to battle this terrible disease.

It was very difficult telling my father just after Thanksgiving that I could NOT donate a kidney to him.  But like he has always been in my life, he was a solid rock. He took the news well, and told me that there is a reason for it, we may not know it now nor ever but there is a reason. He thanked me for going through the process, told me he loved me and said he would wait for a kidney donor to come, and if it didn't come he was ok with that.

CAN YOU HELP?

All of the money I raise for the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation will fund research to prevent, treat, and cure diabetes. Every dollar counts so please donate what you can. Together, we can make a difference.

Thanks so much for your support and encouragement!

Sincerely.
