Dear Family and Friends,
This October I will be running in the Marine Corps Marathon. I have also taken on the added challenge of raising money for vital diabetes research. As you all know Grandma LOVED her sweets. Her Pina Coladas, her Tres Leches or maybe you remember her famous line "This cake has 12 eggs!" -- Really Grandma?? :) I can still see her enjoying her sweets. It was terrible to think that we had to monitor her intake of those little treats that she wanted so bad. And as she was passing all she wanted was Cholocate (or as Grandma said CHOC-O-LAT) Ice Cream. I ran out feverishly looking for chocolate flavored lip gloss for her so she could just taste ice cream on her last hours. We ALL felt terrible we just didn't let her taste some, but at the end she couldn't even swallow. We all felt comfort in knowing that she would be surrounded by all her favorite sweets when she arrived in heaven. I will be thinking of my late beautiful grandmother the ENTIRE 26.2 miles of the Marine Corps Marathon, but the ONLY way I can do that is by raising at lease $500 towards Diabetes Action Research.
Some Interesting Facts:
Diabetes is one of the most common and serious chronic diseases in the United States. The incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing. 26 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 million more are diagnosed every year. This includes 15,000 children who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year (did you see Biggest Loser this season, they had 3 children this year and concentrated specifically child diapetes--so sad).
You can help!
All of the money I raise for the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation will fund research to prevent, treat, and cure diabetes. Every dollar counts so please donate what you can even if it's $5 (that's like one Starbuxs coffee peeps). Together, we can make a difference!
Thanks so much for your support and encouragement!
