In Support of Margie
Dear Family and Friends,
This October I will be running in the Marine Corps Marathon. I have also taken on the added challenge of raising money for vital diabetes research. Please support me in my efforts to run 26.2 miles for a cause that means so much to me.
Diabetes is one of the most common and serious chronic diseases in the United States. The incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing. 26 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 million more are diagnosed every year. This includes 15,000 children who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year.
My aunt, Delores Littlejohn, has been battling diabetes since I was a child. I would spend summer vacations with her as a child but never quite understood the needles or vials of insulin in her refrigerator. My aunt would say that it would help her to live a better life and not get sick. She recently had her right foot amputated in March 2014 as a result of diabetes. Older and more cognizant of diabetes, I am encouraged to run for a cause and raise money for a charity not only on behalf of my aunt but for all those struggling with diabetes. This will be my first time ever raising funds for a cause and I could not think of anyone better than my aunt in which to start. She taught me strength through doing hard work. Even though her body weakens with age, her faith strengthens with each daily challenge. My aunt's faith in God is only overshadowed by the strength of her character to encourage others to do better.
You can help!
All of the money I raise for the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation will fund research to prevent, treat, and cure diabetes. Every dollar counts so please donate what you can. Together, we can make a difference.
Thanks so much for your support and encouragement!
